I'll jump in here and add that I was also on the same cruise with Dave and Jan. I agree with what they said. Yes, she is an old ship, yes she has not had the update money put into her, but if the price is right, you will enjoy it. You will also get a taste for what cruising was like before the mega ships came along (although they still try to cram all the amenities of the big ships into the Holiday...). IF you don't have to fly into Mobile, then the cheap cruise price is a good deal. Just go with that open mind that Islandcruz talked about

my wife and I have been on the holiday 2 times.. we have been on some nicer ships.but frankly we love her.she is the little ship that has brought 2 very good vacations. yes she is old.yes she is small, but she will bring you enjoyement.it is nice to see how they sailed 20 years ago. i wished we had booked on her last voyage from miami, but the rest of my family wanted to go on the valor, but we will miss her,,try her out while you can
They won't be bored. Her itinerary is such that you don't have a lot of sea days and there is plenty to do on board. We had a great time on her last July. It was a short cruise, but a nice break. For $50/day, you can't beat it. You can't go to an amusement park for $50/day. The chocolate melting cake is as good on board the Holiday as it is on any of the other ships. They have a great deli, ice cream, pools, Camp Carnival, Cozumel is a great port whether you come in on a Mega ship or on the Holiday. She's old, but she's still clean and the elevators took me back to the old days. The casino is a good size for the size ship she is. I had plenty of opportunity to lose at the video poker machines. I watched Jim win/lose on the craps table, still goes too fast for me to totally grasp. They have some nice bars and decent entertainment. I don't think the kids will be bored, they just won't get to climb on the rock wall.
HEE HEE. I like that..I think they will be OK, I just made the mistake of taking them on the mega-liners first..but as long as they have food and a pool, they are usually good to go! Thanks and if I go, I will let ya'll know how it went.
I do think you folks will have a blast. The Holiday is my favorite ship overall but she has aged. As far as fun you will never know she is old. She keeps up with the best of them.
I am afrad yall think i was telling her not to do book the cruise. no way. she is just showing her age. if you expect a fancy new sparkling ship you will be disappointed. but if you want a rustic, classic, vintage, great character ship, that will give you a great value for the money, well the holiday is for you.
I have been on the holiday twice. I have also been on a few other ships. It all depends on your expectations and attitude. The Holiday isn't as large as the other ships and doesn't have all the amenities the other ships do. However, I think Mobile is the easiest port to go out of. I also think the Holiday has the nicest staff. So, if you and your kids have an open mind and the attitude that you are going to have a great time on a cruise to Mexico, I think you will have a good time. I always tell my husband when we go on vacation with each other's family (both our parents somtimes try our patience) that you decide if you are going to have a good time before you ever leave. For a quick, cheap getaway, I would definitely go (but that is my opinion).
