Going on my first cruise and have had a total knee replacement, which means I have a titainium prosthesis implanted, this does set off metal detectors. I do have a laminated card that says I have had this done. I hope along with other documents this won't be any kind of a hold up. Anyone dealt with this??
Well judging by how lax the security was when we went through I wouldn't worry about it. They all but waved us through on our return trip. And we had a Naturalized Citizen with us. Didn't xray our bags..none of them..glanced at my BC and no one elses..... They did have a bin for illegal fruit.

My son broke his arm skateboarding and has a very large titanium sleeve imbedded in his arm and has never set off the metal detectors at the airport. Somehow, I think Titanium is exempt from the screening process.
About 18 mos. ago I set them off both coming and going from San Fran. At that time my little card was sufficient. I remember I thought it was kind of weird to set off the alarms like that.
Good morning Tom,
My surgeon did provide the card, it was laminated and everything. I carry it at all times in case of an accident, etc.....I might mention it was at the airports that I sent off the alarms, either way tho..........
I think I'd rather have it as back up just in case. Wouldn't want to miss my first cruise!!!!!!
Thanks for all your input on the board, it's all been so helpful for this nrevous new comer.

I have a prosthetic titanium heart valve that has yet to set off any metal detector -- i've had it for 12+ years --- last month I had surgery for a broken arm, surgical steel metal plates were placed in my forearm --- havev't been through a metal detector yet -- do you think this will set off alarms?
