From the post I read they were 67 and 70ish. They were Vietamese, and one post said there were 3 adult children travelling with them. Supposedly leaving Barbados for Aruba and when they were discovered missing the ship diverted to St. Maarten.
Sad story. Usually when people go overboard, they are drunk or otherwise impaired, or it's on purpose. Even though they were not known to have any medical or personal problems, I'd bet that's at least a possibility.
Unfortunately it is true. we were on the boat. As far as I know they were never found. It turned out to be a nightmare for us seeing that we were disembarking to Aruba and never made it back...
I was on this ship also. The initial rumor on the ship was that the wife had cancer. A lot of people (myself) included, believe that the couple committed suicide. We were on the same level (Lido deck), same side of ship and believe me, the rails on the balcony came well above my chest, which would have made it impossible for anyone to just fall overboard. It was a true tragedy for the family and a true disappointment for all of the other passengers. There was no compensation, not even an apology from the cruise line.
Wow, this all makes me nervous. My husband and I are sch'd on the Carnaval Elation on 9/18/05,where the woman is missing. This will be our first cruise and not knowing exactly what to expect, I thought the rails around the ship would be high enough to where one couldn't just "fall"off.
