Man oh man...anyone on the board sailing out of Galveston this weekend? Any regulars sailing THIS week?

It is looking pretty ugly out there - Bahamas are supposed to get smacked in the morning then Rita makes a beeline across the gulf to anywhere from NOLA to Corpus Christi - the computer models are predicting landfall around Galveston at up to a CAT III (although CAT II-I is more likely).

What the heck is carnival going to do?? If it stalls out like Katrina does they could be looking to divert from Galveston this weekend

We don't sail until 9 Oct - 3 weeks away - but my heart goes out to the people out in the Caribbean this week...and the stress of wondering WHICH port you will be coming home to.

Unfortunately those are the risks of sailing during hurricane season, I think by the time we sail in November we'll be up to hurricane Zachary if this keeps up. If Rita reaches hurricane status and hits Galveston I think someone is telling me not to sail the Conquest!!! That trip to Ireland is looking better all the time!!

Every time I look at the TV I tell the kids to kiss the Caribbean good bye- it will be Canada or Bermuda for us next summer. Even Bermuda is dicey. I wish I could afford to fly everyone to Hawaii, but I don't think so.

I just talked to someone on Elation tonight. They just left Galveston for a 5 day. Who knows where they will end up!

well, FWIW, this year is supposed to be the bad year...next year? Who Knows...but yeah, I think I have had my fill of cruising in Hurricane season - those Christmas cruises are looking better all the time! :-)

Bobinnm: you should set up a countdown clock. I keep reading your postings (obviously) but then forgetting when you are leaving, which ship, etc.

Well that explains it all Raoul! Thanks for the info - I was always curious how folks had the countdown timers & I had tried with zip luck. Now everything is clear (and folks know when I am sailing!)

Well guys, I am sailing Oct 2 on the Conquest. I hope my ship will sail!! I am a little nervous. As of right now, they are predicting the hurricane to go more south (Corpus area.) Lets keep our fingers crossed.
