How Ssfe are the Safes?

(YA Newbie question :-)

I am noticing that all of our shore excursions prefer we pay in cash - something I had not considered.

I understand that all the balcony staterooms have safes in the room. I am assuming that the combos on the safes are changeable by us (or how does this work?)

on the "Carnival Liberty" (also a "Conquest"-class ship) the safes are operated using a credit card or other magnetic card of one's choice. I used my cabin key / onboard credit card.

In case there is a code lock, yes you can set it freely.

We DID use Cash but we put it on our board account when we boarded and then kept a few travelers cheques other than that. We booked our excursions through the TV system onboard so we did not actually exchange money.

the safes are the same as the ones used in hotel room you program a pin number in and some you will slide the backside of a credit card to gain access with your pin number, just depends on the kind of safe is in your cabin, we stowed our passports airline tickets extra cash and jewelry in them they are quite safe and very easy to use I do recommend that two people keep the pass code in thier head as some times the other person may be off somewhere and you may need to get into the safe so it it is a wise idea for two folks to have access

Now that is a interesting concept! Are you saying that I can deposit, say $600 cash - or whatever, and "withdraw" whatever amount I want from the on board account before we go on a shore excursion? That would be cool!
