Yes, just to let you all know, I absolutely without a doubt caught a BAD case of scabies on the Carnival Triumph sailing on July 15-22. It was dreadful and embarrassing. The belief is that it was caught from the pool towels, as my husband didn't get it, so it may not have been from the linens. Not sure I'll be cruising with Carnival again...may stick with Royal Caribbean. Anyone else catch anything?
My older Sis is a nurse, she said they are bugs that are common in nursing homes. They burrow in your skin, eat and lay more eggs. They must be treated with pesticides
I heard that there is a major PANDEMIC of bed bugs everywhere. I heard that Bed Bugs were very effectively controlled with the use of DDT. And ever since we ban the use of DDT, the Bed Bugs have returned with a vengance.
I would not surprise me to hear about an outbreak of Bed Bugs on a cruiseship. That is if they are something different from Scabies?
I was under the impression that linens were disinfected on cruise ships...or hotels, motels. Won't a good bleaching take care of the little critters??? Am I gonna have to take my own linens on the ships??
annies, This is the first time I have heard of this. The question was what were they. I have never had a problem or any been reported to my knowledge as this as a problem.
You don't have to bring your linens. They wash them and change them.
I did hear of the bed bug thing in NYC. Scabies is a whole different bug, in which would have had someone there a long while.
If you worry, as I do too sometimes with things, have the Steward strip the bed and spray it. You will be fine.
Sadly, the only thing that got rid of those little critters the last time was DDT. We eliminated them here in the US, but they still thrived around the world and now that "world travel" is so easy...they have returned. Of course, we can't use DDT any more...so they will be harder to get rid of this time around.
While they are not the same "animal" people do confuse the two.
If you think if won't happen on RCCL (or any other cruise line for that matter)....sadly you are whistling in happy land.
