Hi MemaSue, I don't recall the casino being open in Freeport. They use to open it on the overnight stays in Nassau. It was special hours, and I can't remember. This was on the Fantasy, but all the ships should do the same. Actually I think Nassau is the only port I have ever seen the casino open. Hopefully someone has more recent info. for you.
There are casinos in both ports, but I always have better luck on the ship.
MemaSue- If you are referring to the ship's Casino, no. The ship's casino (and shops) are always closed while in port. This holds true for all ships (at least on the CCL and RCCL brand cruise lines).
There are casino's in some ports, where as pointed out, you might have better luck because of competition.

Thanks Jim for the current information. I knew the official writing was that the casino and shops are closed while in port as a general rule.
Since MemaSue is cruising on the Sensation that visits Freeport and Nassau, I limited my response to those 2 ports. In the past the casino has opened while in port at Nassau with limited hours.
In 2002 on an overnight visit the Fantasy Casino was open until 2 AM. We then debarked to join some of the Crew at their hangout Bahama Bums.
In 2004 on the Celebration they opened the full casino at 7PM while at port, with us leaving at 12AM.
My experiences with Carnival and Nassau are a few years old. Thanks again for the current information regarding this.
Well Dwayne, you have more current information than I and I stand corrected. The casinos may be able to stay open since the ships are registered in the Bahamas they are allowed to be open when in those ports (I have not been to the Bahamas in a long time)
But for all the other ports, they have always been closed.

Jim, You do not stand corrected at all! You are 100% correct about it. They say exactly as you did that the casino and shops are closed while in port. They must have had some kind of exception for certain hours in Nassau is all I can figure. I have not been there for several years either.
