Your little ones will have a great time and be well cared for. Ours have been cruising with Carnival since they were 5 and 8 and have received excellent care on all the 10+
ships they have been on.
The day you get on the ship, they will have an orientation around 7pm. This is where you take the little ones and fill out some paperwork, allergies, special needs, etc and meet the counselors.
They will have some family oriented activities later that night...but the "kids only" care does not start until 9AM the next morning.
Basically, they keep the kids from 9AM to 10PM for free. You will be given a Caper at orientation that will tell you what time the little ones have to be picked up for lunch (and/ or dinner).
On Sea Days, it used to be CC was open from 9am- noon (we picked up the kids for lunch) 2pm-5pm (we picked up the kids for dinner) 7pm-10pm. After 10pm, they charge $6 per hour for the first child and $4 an hour for other children. They stay open until 3AM!
Port days run a little differently...but it has been awhile since we used Camp Carnival so I don't exactly remember. But your kids Caper will be for the entire week (not one day like Adult Capers) and they will have all the details spelled out.
The kids will be in different age groups. 2-5 and 6-8...but neither one of these can sign themselves out. However, the same parent that signs them in...must be the one that signs them out.
Have a great cruise!!
