Hi Everyone! I need help! My mother isn't well, and I really want to check in on her while cruising. I know the rates on the ship, but what about in Mexico? Do I need to buy a calling card to use out of the country, or what? What's my most inexpensive route to take? I need to check in on her for the peace of mind.
Annies, I have not used one in Mexico, but I did on Barbados once. I think the phone card was the least expensive way to go.
Some Jamaican friends buy phone cards at Walmart to phone home pretty cheaply. But I don't know if is only for US use or what.
Read it well first if you get one stateside.
Depending on how far out your curise is, you may be able to change your cell phone plan to include international calling. It may be a bit cheaper, not sure. I would check with your cell service. When you get back you can change it back, most companies are now changing them at no cost. Theres always a collect call.
Some of the Carnival ships now offer cell service. It will bill at the international rate for Verizon that is or was $2.49 per min.
I just got back from the Legend which has cell service. Although I had a very strong signal and Verizon assured me my phone would work I was unable to make calls.
