Neither was I. I'm a chocolate lover and had high expectations when I cruised Carnival two years ago. I just could not taste what everyone else was tasting I guess. It was OK, but to me, nothing to talk highly of. I'll give it another try in November and maybe my opinion will change... who knows.
It just dosen't seem quite as intriguing if I can make it at home. Of course at home it isn't served by a waiter in a starched white shirt.
F-mattox, You make it at home to remind you of the great time you had on a cruise. It holds you over until you can get back on that ship again! Because everyone knows it taste better when you don't have to make it yourself and it's served to you by a smiling face waiter. Then you realize I'm on a cruise!!
I'll try it, but I know it won't be the same. I don't know why I love it so much, but it really tastes delicious to me. I think it's the contrast in textures, the crunchy outside of the cake, the gooey inside, then the ice cream on the side. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Ron bought me the cookbook from the Sea Princess. I tried a number of recipes. They turned out ok, but still were served on my Corelle ware and took me HOURS in the kitchen to prepare. Needless to say, he got them once and only once.
And now for my dark secret...I guess I might be risking excommunication from the forum but I really am not impressed by the melting chocolate cake. I am not a major dessert nut anyway and am happy with just some ice cream, cheesecake, or pie.
Its OK Dave.. you can stay. I like a melting cake but only can handle one per cruise. I usually wait until there is a night where the other desserts are not something I want to try.
It can be a bit much to eat, unless of course you put ice cream on it...

OK -Tried it and it came out pretty good - unfortunately the ship and wait staff was missing so it doesn't taste as good - I'll have to compare taste on another Carnival cruise!!
The cruise is a better way to do it - there's a lot less mess in the kitchen!!
well I will not even try it it takes the magic away and I am mostly a BBQ kind of chef
Also
If I do it I will not have any excuses and my wife will not let me book another carnival cruise... I am a chocolate addict as well as a cruiser
