My cruise is September 3 out of Miami. I noticed that Royal Caribbean's website has a link you can click on to be notified if the cruise is cancelled or there is an itinerary change due to weather, does Carnival offer anything like that? If not, how do I find out if my cruise is still on schedule?

You can read this on the Carnival website. It states what their policy is on storms. Last season they had a link on their home page on "cruise itinerary updates" or something to that nature. But I don't see that there now. IF they have any major cancellations, or changes, I'm sure it will re-appear. But they will really not know if they will need to make changes or cancellations until a day or so before embarkation. The last couple that I went on that had to make an itinerary change, we were not notified until we got to the terminal. And while the RCCL site may have the link, it doesn't make them immune to unannouced changes. For our Mariner OTS trip last June, we were forced to skip CocoaCay and went to San Jaun instead due to weather at the Cay. Weather is just too unpredicatable to be able to give a lot of early warning.
Just go with the flow. If they make a change, so be it. They are only going to do it to protect you and the ship from danger.

That's really about all you can do. I know it seems worrisome, but I have only heard of a one cruise being cancelled because of a Hurricane. There have been a few that were delayed (which is great if you are out on the ship when it is delayed.. bonus cruise time). Just keep an eye on your travel to Miami. If it looks like airflights are going to get affected (which it doesn't in your case) it is wise to go in the day before so yo are not affected by delays there.

We are ALL flying in a day early! Learned that lesson the last time I cruised and flew in the day of! NEVER AGAIN! It would be nice to have an extended cruise that's for sure, except our flights back are the same day we get off the ship!

When Wilma came through in 2005, we were booked on Glory out of Port Canaveral. They did not post a final update until late the evening before. They changed it from West to East. We did drive down a day early. It all worked out fine. There were some people we met that had pre-paid an excursion, they were refunded and given the option to re-book another.
The "official" hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30, but this is really meaningless since hurricanes have happened on both sides of the season. The season is really just when the conditions for hurricane formation are most likely to be best. As we've seen, and are seeing at this moment, August, September, and October are usually the peak times for the worst storms.
There have been five recorded hurricanes in December over the past 120 years, the last being Hurricane Epsilon in 2005. That was the year they ran out of names and had to start using Greek letters.
I know many of you don’t want to be afraid booking a cruise during this season and to be true you don’t have to, hurricanes are something that you just have to be careful with not afraid of them. I am sorry for a few of my last post I did not mean to make an issue of hurricanes…
This is a suggestion
Actually is not much trouble during the months of august or November, but the more active months are September and October so maybe is that why the price goes down during those months…
Epsilon is not as strange as I have seen; I remember one that happens on November. That hurricane was crazy instead of going from east to the west of the Caribbean that hurricane when backward…
Maybe on the future you can have a section just to know about hurricanes and to alert about what is happening like a caribbean hurricane section alert...
