Could someone please explain to me in detail how the sign and sale card is used. We will put cash on our sign and sial cards. My husband I dont drink alcohol or gamble. Would the card be used in the onboard stores, for pictures or in the spa? Does any place onboard accept cash? How much should one put on the card per day? Thanks in advance for your help!

It's used in lieu of cash on the ship, & you can put as much or as little $ on the card as you want. Just estimate what you're going to spend and put that on there. Both cards should be linked to one account since you're a married couple traveling together. (My roommates have been friends, and Carnival allows us to use separate credit cards for our sail & signs) I think the only place I've actually seen cash accepted/used is in the casino, and even in there you can use your sail & sign card.

Remember the cards aren't good in the ports (except Half Moon Cay the private island, you can rent things with your card there) Also EVERYONE make sure you take plenty of 1's if you're going to shop at straw markets, etc., because it's not easy to get change for a $20!

Also remember that the first "deduction" will be the automatic tips ($10.00 per person per day)

You don't have to put money on it daily. If you are putting up cash, I would put enough to cover the tips and then $200.00 (for a 4 day cruise) to cover pictures or trinkets you may purchase on board. Just remember that there is no exchange of cash on the ship (except to play bingo or the casino). All purchases from the gift shop, shore excursions, pictures, drinks etc run through the Sail and Sign.

At the end of the cruise, they will slip a check under your door for any unused portion.

Also remember that Carnival does charge for soda, but you are allowed to bring your own
(carry it on...you don't want it to bust in your suitcase)

The security may check it to make sure it is soda and not beer....so don't worry if they ask you to open the bag!!

You can also bring soda back to the ship from ports. That should save you a little money along the way.

LHP gaveyou all the info you need, but I wanted to correct the post by rescue911chick... You can't put as "little" cash as you want on the card. The cruise line will want you to cover the automatic tips ($10 pp per day). I certainly understand those that perfer to use cash to back the sign and sail card, but if you have a credit card, its easier to back the sign and sail card with that than to worry about how much cash to put into your account...

Smiles to you Chef Ken....I can tell you that my singing is worse than my spelling, so they would probably beg me to sign and not sing.

Cant you pay your tips when you buy your ticket? and that way you dont have to put it on the sign and sail card?

Thank you for correcting me, I forgot that when I only put $50 cash on my account it was before they started adding it to your sail & sign accounts!! (My 1st cruise---I didn't spend much on the ship at all!! THAT has changed since!)

I usually get worried early about my drink-n-sink account, but I've discovered we spend way more on pictures than on drinks.
My inlaws kept their amount (other than tips) to just $35. That was just stuff bought in the stores.
If I had to sing it'd probably cost me more...

Yes, it was a long time ago. Have you gotten that cruise added to your cruise history on Carnival so that it will count towards your Platinum status? Those old cruises are sometimes hard to get added on. If you have a problem, let me know. We had to have 8 cruises added that were taken before "computers were created"!!
