Is any one familar with the carnival fun ship value book? Are they coupons? Are they valid during a certain time or cruise? Do they expire?

We have had these before. I don't recall if they had an expiration date, but at least in our case the books were largely unused because many of the coupons were for things we didn't do, use, or need. And in most cases you have to buy something in order to use a coupon, such as buy 3 5x7 photos and get a 4th one free or something like that. There was also one where you got a drink in a souvenir glass for the price of a regular drink. I also recall something about renting a tux and getting X percent off. I have my own tux.

I am looking at a value book an I don't see any expiration date. But as Dave says, most coupons are something I wouldn't use. One coupon is for a "free work of art". Well, they have that all the time on every cruise if you attend one of the art sessions. One coupon is for rent a pair of Motorola two-way radios for the length of the cruise and receive a 3rd rental radio. Rent a set of Calaway clubs, and receive 2nd rental set free, Buy a private, 1-hr video golf lesson receive a 15-minute swing check. Purchase any "XO" Cognac and receive a free Astral "Lujos" cigar, Yep, I'll jump on that one! . 20% off selected Spa Therapies while ship is in port. (Keyword selected), Buy internet time package Plan #1 and receive an additional 5 minutes free. There are a few more coupons. As you can see, most of them are no big thrill.

I'm with the others. There is not much worth in the coupons. I like the one Dave pointed out about getting a souvenir glass for the price of a regular drink. The wife tried many times to use that one and there wasn't anyone on board the ship that knew what the souvenir glass was! The closest thing we could find was the cheap plastic drink glasses that we didn't want anyway. On our early cruises with carnival, the souvenir glasses were actually glass...We still have them.

Most of the coupons require you to buy something you don't want or have restrictions that don't make them worthwhile.

I have not bought one of the books, but I have a friend who did and said that she, basically, wasted the money for it. She said the same thing that the others have said. . . .Most of the coupons were for things she wouldn't or couldn't use.

I have a thought on this. . . I can't see a benefit in "PAYING" for coupons on which you'll get money off. Are you that much ahead if you pay for the book and then get something off? I guess you would be if you could use a good number of the coupons for big ticket items and get a good discount on them. I know that my friend said there was something in her book about getting diamond jewelry or something at a discount. If you used it for that, maybe it would be worth the money spent for the book.

I don't remember how much the books were on Carnival or on Royal Caribbean, but consider that if you pay $20 for the book, you have to receive $20 back in discounts before you start saving money. . . .

Just my two cents. . . .

Ok. . .Now how long do I have until I get to leave?

I've never paid for the book of coupons - at least directly. Mine have always been included with my docs as a freebie from my agent.

I didn't buy mine either, they came as a "gift" for signing up for the Carnival Sea Miles credit card. DON'T pay for them, I know I have not "saved" enough to get $20 back. In fact we have had the same coupon books for 2 cruises now we just went through them to find any that we "might" use on our Alaska cruise. I think we have 2 or 3... The spa discounts and the drinks.

Definetly a marketing ploy to get you to 1) think you got something great as a gift 2) make you spend more money than you would have without the coupon.

On RCCL once you've cruised once you get a great coupon book in your cabin. It's free if you're a crown and anchor member(more than 1 cruise) and the booklets have really cool things like...
5 minutes free internet service
2 for 1 drinks at the bar
Free 5x7 photo
$5 casino chip
etc...
Lots of good stuff and a great way to value their recurring Customers!
