Hi All, Here is a press release I received from Carnival yesterday, but just got around to reading it today. Thought it might be of interest to some:
GUESTS ARE THE STARS OF NEW ‘CARNIVAL LEGENDS’ REVUE
MIAMI (May 9, 2005) – For those who have dreamed of performing
with a live band dressed as Elvis, James Brown, or Madonna – or any
number of music superstars – as the audience goes wild, Carnival
Cruise Lines can make those dreams a reality.
During the new “Carnival Legends” show, which recently debuted
on the Imagination, guests don authentic, highly detailed costumes of
their favorite singer and perform one of the artist’s signature tunes
in the elegant 1,100-seat Dynasty Show Lounge, backed by a talented
10-piece orchestra and full complement of dancers.
“Carnival Legends” is open to all guests regardless of their
level of vocal talent and guests can select from such stars as Gloria
Estefan, Britney Spears, or several other pop, rock, and country music
After rehearsing with the Imagination’s band and production
show dancers, it’s “showtime” as the would-be stars take the stage and
strut their stuff – in full costume, of course – to a packed audience.
Elaborate sets, state-of-the-art lighting and dazzling special effects
complete the scene.
“This is unlike anything that’s ever been done on a cruise
ship. While just about every cruise ship has a guest talent show,
this takes the concept to an entirely new level, making guests the
featured performers in our legendary Las Vegas-style revues,” said
Roger Blum, Carnival’s vice president of cruise programming and the
producer of the line’s production shows. He noted that “Carnival
Legends” is such a hit on the Imagination, the show will be featured
on other Carnival ships operating cruises of seven days or longer in
the near future.
The new “Carnival Legends” show is just one of several new
entertainment options at Carnival.
Also new is a “Welcome Aboard” show that is designed to
provide guests with a fun, interactive way to begin their “Fun Ship”
cruise and get acquainted with the shipboard entertainers.
Hosted by the cruise director, the high-energy show encourages
audience participation with fast-paced musical numbers, setting a
festive mood for the remainder of the voyage. The show is currently on
five ships and will be introduced fleetwide later this year.
Also new is “Once In My Lifetime,” an “up close and personal
look” at the wide-ranging musical influences of Christopher Alan
Graves, an extremely accomplished performer whose appearances in
Carnival’s production shows over the years has made him an audience
Debuting on Carnival Liberty this summer, “Once In My
Lifetime” is a musical journey through Graves’ life, with songs culled
from his various experiences. For example, “Nussun Dorma,” made
famous by Luciano Pavarotti, is a nod to Graves’ Italian heritage,
while standards from Broadway musicals “Guys and Dolls” and “Phantom
of the Opera” reflect his early musical influences. There are also
several Caribbean numbers inspired by his years performing aboard
Another new show is “Glory Days,” which recently debuted on
Carnival Glory. The hour-long show features classic tunes from the
1950s and 60s, with costumes appropriate to each era.
Staged in an alternative venue to the main show lounge, the
more intimate space encourages audience participation and interaction
with the performers. An adaptation of “Glory Days” is expected to be
included in the entertainment line-up when the new Carnival Liberty
debuts from Europe this summer.
These new revues complement Carnival’s 35 different
Vegas-style production shows presented fleetwide. In addition, each
Carnival ship offers a variety of live music options, including rock,
big band, calypso and jazz, at different venues throughout the vessel,
while the ever-popular “Midnight Special” features some of the
entertainment industry’s top comedians.
Carnival is the largest and most popular cruise line in the
world, with a fleet of 20 “Fun Ships” operating voyages ranging from
three to 16 days in length to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera,
Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England and Europe.
