I spoke with the Special Promotions Desk this last Thursday. They told me that if the booking is outside of Penalty and before Final Payment they would accept them. Now I know that sometimes you can call Carnival and get three different answers to questions. However, I have had good results with this department with being accurate about the promotions.
I would rather you hear it first hand though just in case. The number is;

Dwayne: You are right. But as with many times with Carnival ... they are not consistant.
All I can share is our experience....we sent three in that were purchased AFTER we had booked the cruises and they applied them...but we were OUTSIDE the penalty phase.
This makes sense....because if someone really wanted to use them...all they would have to do is cancel and rebook(if they are not booked ES). So by simply accepting them....Carnival saves themselves a lot of paperwork.
I have read on other boards about Carnival sending the certificates back...but I have no way of knowing if these folks were trying to use them on cruises that were INSIDE the penalty phase....
Either way, IF Carnival does not except them...you get them back to use on a future cruise.

Well I certainly plan on trying this. I have 2 cruises booked this year, one in August and one at Thanksgiving... I have FCCs to use in August and plan on buying more to use for November... worst case I can't use the second set for the November cruise and I just use them on a cruise the next summer... best case I get to use them right away.

My wife and I just returned from the Fantasy and of course had a great time, ALL for Fun as they say. We had bought a certificate and forgot to send it in until we had paid in full and past the penalty time. We called and they had us send it in, it turned up as a ship board credit and a $100 credit against my Visa Card. Since we also cashed in some FUN Points on a visa card we were concerned if it would all be applied right. The web invoice replaced one credit with the other. But when we got on board and checked with Guest Services all credit was applied and even more than we expected. So it worked well for us even when we didn't follow the rules.
I'd have to check ours but I think they have the date of purchase on them. So even though you didn't send it in until after the final payment date they could see you had them before then... Glad it worked out for you. They really are a good deal if you can "float" the $100. If you buy them and then use them in the same year its like getting 100% interest on your $100
