I found a website, cruiseonly.com that offers 2 category upgrades for free (chose an upper deck and get the verandah deck) my first question is, has anyone used this site or other discount sites? i have only purchased directly from carnival before. second, i have stayed on empress deck, but with this site i could upgrade to Lido or verandah...has anyone stayed on those levels, if so, how are they.....

As you should know, "free upgrades" is a sales gimmick in most cases. So you book an 8A cabin and get "upgraded" to an 8C (in virtually all cases, you will not be upgraded to a suite). All standard outside (and inside) cabins, regardless of category, are essentially identical. The cabins are no different as far as size and amenities - you have moved up to a higher deck and the only real benefit is a reduced travel distance to the buffet restaurant and pools. So if you want to be on the lido deck and just a few steps away from the pool then I'd say fine, go ahead and make the booking.

I personally would never book through the internet. I have an agent that really is helpful, and specializes in cruises. She's not local, but, I did meet her on a cruise and started using her abour 5 years ago. She takes very good care of us. Mandi, my suggestion would be to find a local agent that will be there for you when you need one on a personal level.
We've run into situations where we had to call her, and she took care of it. I don't think anyone can get that special service with an online agency.
