Hi there, my husband and I are cruising for the first time with Carnival and were wondering if anyone can give some insight on what the ship is like. Do's and don'ts for excursions in Cozumel, Costa Maya, Belize and Grand Cayman Island. We will be cruising on October 29th and we want ideas for the costume night...I know I have allot of questions but please have patients with me. We've travelled with Holland America before and had a blast. We look forward to this cruise as well. Thanks for your suggestions!!

"please have patients with me"

Why are you a doctor?

Sorry, the smart butt in me came out again. I should be the last person to talk on typing and grammar mistakes...

Never been on the Miracle, but have been on her sister ship the Spirit. If you thought Holland America was a lot of fun, either you are going to have an amazingly good time OR you are going to be annoyed at the party goers. Espically a halloween cruise. I can't imagine the party they will have.. Bring a good costume. (Don't go as a ship Captain, I'm sure its been overdone.)

As far as excursions go, go visit the Caribbean Ports chat area.

Love the Miracle. Went in Apr and now going in Dec.

Grand Caymen - Go google captain marvin in Grand Cayman. Great used him twice!

Cozumel - I went through Shoretrips for a beach break and did shopping.

Belize - Never got off the boat.

Costa Maya - We skipped this port. The waves were too big to dock.

Make sure to visit the supper club. Also if you are prone to motion sickness, ask for a table near the front of the resteraunt. <sp?>

We are headed out on the Miracle on October 8th. We have been to Grand Cayman and Cozumel several times. Both are very safe and tourist friendly. No ship excursions required at either of these ports.
Grand Cayman - I have not used Captain Marvin but have heard GREAT things about him. You can also grab a taxi to Seven Mile Beach.

Cozumel - again, taxis are every where and you can take one to Paradise Beach (where the chairs and shade is free, but the non-motorized water toys cost you $8 per person ~ that is optional). If you are into more quiet adult settings...Nachi Cocom is great but expensive. They have gone up from 32.00 a person to 69.00 a person (all inclusive food and drinks) and they are limiting the number of "ship people" to 100 per day. Shopping downtown is fun and safe. Taxis from downtown to the beach will be $12- 14 per taxi (4 people) one way.

Don't freak if they hand you a bill for one drink and it says $52.50. That is pecos (about $5.25 in American).

Costa Maya has a pool and a beach right at the end of the pier where we will probably relax for the day. But for $3 (I think) one way, you can purchase a bus pass to go downtown. That is suppose to be ok as well.

Belize is the only port that I personally would be a lot more guarded about. Again, we have never been there...but from what I have read...just pack your common sense. I would not leave the immediate area without a tour. (ship or independent) It seems that cave tubing is the thing to do in Belize. (again we can't because of our child) Many use independent companies with no problem, however, if you are not comfortable with that...just use a ship excursion and you won't have any worries.

We have been on 2 Spirit class ships and we love the lay out. We expect to have just as much fun on the Miracle.

have a great cruise!!!

Sorry TravelBugTrish.. got so carried away that I did not answer your questions on excursions. LHP covered Cozumel and G. Cayman, but as for Belize, we are using Reggie Tours. They have a website you can find with google. If not, post back and I will dig it up. They come highly recommended on Cruise-Chat and they offer multiple tours for Belize (we are doing the Cave Tubing.. but they offer others) The Cave tubing tour through them is less that half what the ship booked one costs and they will refund the deposit if the ship does not dock in Belize for some reason (storm diversion etc..)

I, like LHP wouldn't recommend venturing far from the end of the pier shopping area unless with some form of tour.

Hope that helps. Since we will be back before you go, I'll let you know of my thoughts on Belize when I get back (this is our first time there)

Have a great Cruise!

Jim, I just noticed your NCL sailing date...I can't believe we are going to be "floating" around so close and not hit a port at the same time. That is a shame!!!

Yup, I put out the "anyone sailing with us?" post in the NCL forum, but no one replied. You would think that with the number of cruise ships out there in a given week.. Someone would manage to be able to say yes....
