Freeport

I posted this under "ports" but no one has responded so I wanted to post it here as well. I hope that's ok?
Has anyone done any excursions through Carnival while in Freeport? I've heard the shopping is not so good so I figured it might be best to do an excursion. They have a Junkanoo Beach Party that looks good, but would like to get thoughts on that from someone who has been. Do you basically just lay on the beach for 5 hours or is there something else to do? Is there lots of things to take pictures of? I love taking pictures! lol Or has anyone done the "coastal cruise and shopping tour"? How is the Port Lucaya Marketplace? Any good? Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks

The Port Lucaya Marketplace is a lot of fun. It's not like some of the markets in Montego Bay. Port Lucaya is very clean and well kept. You'll find plenty of shopping and over 30 restaurants and eateries catering to all varieties of appetites. There is nightly entertainment which has a different theme every night of the week. There is a 24hr casino which opened less than five years ago. Watersports and golf are also popular in Lucaya. You will have a lot of fun there and 5 hours will be gone before you know it.

Thank you for responding!! Can you walk to the Port Lucaya Marketplace from where the ship docks? I'd rather just walk there than pay for a ride or cruise there. If there's enough to keep us busy there for a few hours we will probably not book an excursion....I just didn't want to dock in Freeport and have absolutly nothing to do.

My wife, who hates water activities, and I went Kayaking on a Carnival excursion on our visit to Freeport. We had a great time kayaking and on a beautiful beach. We then got back to town with a little time to shop. It was a great day! We are looking forward to a return trip in the near future.

I wouldn't advise walking. It is about a 20 minute cab ride. I think that we paid about $5 per person each way. The cabs are metered but be prepared to pay a flat rate.

You might visit the Underwater Explorers Society (UNEXSO) in Lucaya. They have a great quick dive course (takes about 3-4 hours)taught by some of the world's best divers and dive authors! They also have a great cocktail lounge near the marketplace! You can get high without going down!!
