YES! Get your passport. I'd submit it now so you don't have to stress getting it later. It take 16 weeks to get it and that puts it very close to your cruise date. I would guess that as the end of the year approaches, there will be another rush of submissions. Don't let your cruise be ruined because you waited.

And Welcome to cruise chat!

I leave on December 31st aboard the Holiday and was told that the passport deadline had changed until June 2008. Those in the know, is this true?

Carnival told me the same thing. The passport deadline has changed until summer of 2008. Check the Dept. of Homeland Security website to be certain.

That doesn't mean one should procrastinate on getting a passport. It is still much better to use a passport on your cruise, even if it is not yet required.

If you don't have a passport (never did), you need to fill out a DS-11 Passport Application Form. Click on this link, read the instructions then fill it out, then print it out: Click Here For DS-11

Get a passport photo at your local Walgreen's, QVC, Rite-Aid, or similar store which has a photo lab.

Then run to your local post office with your passport photo and DS-11 form. Then you will go through the process with one of the postal clerks who is trained on the processing of passport applications. Then hope that it will arrive in a timely manner in the mail. The post office might have an option for rush service. It might be worth the extra cost.

Anyway, here is more info on getting a passport on the US Postal Service website:

The reason you need a passport is that this cruise goes to foreign countries.

If you have a problem and need to fly home from a port....guess what you need??? A passport.

They will eventually be required just to cruise, so the time has come for folks to bite the bullet.

Our 2 sons are actually working on their 2nd passports. Which reminds me...our family's passports all expire in 2009....I had better put all 4 renewals on the calendar!!!

You should be able to get your passport at any courthouse, driver's license renewal, city hall, etc....they will take your picture and process it for you....just need to fill out the form...and DO IT TODAY:-)....Happy Sailing...and welcome to the wonderful world of Cruising...
