We had a wonderful time on our Carnival Victory cruise to Halifax and Saint John. I'm working on a review currently, and am happy to answer any questions in the meantime.

I just booked Dec 3 for a family trip, group of 8 on the Victory. We have been on few cruises but this is our first Carnival trip. Can you tell me a bit about the food? I notice the travel voucher spells out 3 meals a day. What else is there? midnight buffet?

What about this $10 tipping per day per person policy? Is it compulsory? Can I do it on my own? In the past trips, I have never even seen the matrie'd but he is part of beneficary group.

In terms of alchoal? I like to drink my own red wine. Any chance to bring a couple of bottles to drink them in the room? Princess was Ok with it as long as the passenger bring them with the day of arrival. Thanks.

There is enough food to please everyone, and make you gain at least 5 lbs. Try the 24/7 pizzeria (it's delicious), plus there's a deli to make made-to-order sandwiches, self-serve ice cream, room service to name just a few. There is also a midnight buffet.
As for the $10.00 pp per day tip, this does not include the matre'd, and you can adjust the tip up or down by going to the Purser's Desk. If you prefer giving the tip yourselves, the entire automatic tip can be taken off your account & you can give them the cash in envelopes. As for the wine, we have taken 2 bottles in our carry-on and have had no problems whatsoever. We have always had the wine in our room prior to dinner, but I understand there is a corkage fee if you take the unopened bottle into the dining room. You will not have access to bottles purchased on the islands until the evening before you disembark, as they take them from you when you reboard the ship (everything you carry goes through an x-ray machine).

On the captains night are drinks free or just the first drink? Do you know anything about the Camp Carnival on Victory?

I am not advocating breaking rules, but if you want to get a bottle or two from the port into your room, just re-board the ship with a large group, with your bottle(s) in bag. They will scan it and tell you to "take it over there" where another long line will be - coincidentally right by the elevator.
