I've read in several reviews, that there is extensive smoking allowance on Carnival Cruise ships. Is it really as bad as the people make it out to be? We are both non-smokers and my wife gets easily eye-irritated when smoke is in the air
There are areas that allow smoking, such as casino. No smoking is allowed in the dining rooms, or theater areas, and lobby/open areas of the ship.

What about cabins though? Are there smoking and non-smoking cabins? i really do not want to end up in a room where the walls and curtains are yellow
There are designated smoking and non-smoking cabins I THINK. They do a good job cleaning the cabins and I have never smelled cigarette residue when checking in, although I am sure it is possible. Just to be safe, pick up some lysol at a convenience store before you board...might be handy for norovirus protection too.

We are non smokers. Aside from the smoke in the casino, we have never been bothered by smoke on a CCL ship. I have never noticed smoke residue in any or our cabins either. So either they do a great job of cleaning up OR they have smoking/non smoking cabins.
I would not worry too much about it.

It would be a problem to carry the lysol on the plane...just get the taxi to run by a convenience store on the way to the pier.

I smoke and I smoke in my cabin. I also hate the smell of a "smoked" in room. I have never smelled the smokeiness for some reason when I return to my cabin.
I usually ask for a non smoking room in Hotels due to the stench of smoke.
I did find an answer to smoking inside if you must....well actually two answers.
one being this : purchasing a
Lampe Berger "Lamp" it works wonders with any oder or live bacteria you can creat floating in the air. it was invented in 1899 or so and used in hospitals to eliminate bactieria...works great google "Lamp Berger" I have one it works great.
if you dont want to spend a few dollars on an original Lampe Berger lamp.......just buy a $1.49 bottle of white vinager (sp) pour some in two bowls or small cup's and place them somewhere out of sight in the room...it will eat the smell of smoke like no tomorrow...and NO you dont smell the vinager... trust me these two thing's do work...
Just tryin to help out the non smokers.
I myself am a very conciderate smoker and am bothered by others smoking habit's as well as my own go figger... however theres nuttin like the first cigarette in the morning with coffee....
