I was just wondering if $1500 is enough spending money for a family of 3 two adults one child. Our cruise is on the Carnival Destiny and it departs from San Juan April 26. Is that too little? We don't gamble?
I would think it's more than enough...we used the sail and sign for our drinks which went automatically onto the credit card and brought 500 in cash and actually had some left over and we did do a little gambling...
Thanks so much! This is our first cruise and I really want to enjoy myself. We like to have good wine with our dinner? Taking that into consideration would you still say it is more than enough?
Did you mean April 26, 2008? Because there is a departure April 27th...and if it's April 26th this year, you missed it!!
If thats the cruise that has a different port of call every day, you may need to save a bit more depending on whether you're going to do excursions in all ports. Also remember the boat charges MUCH more for good bottles of wine thah what you usually pay for them.
Also don't forget they're going to charge you $10 per day per adult for tips...thats $140 right there. Alot depends also on the age of your child. Older kids drink more soft drinks, which are about $2 a pop...so to speak.
I would also recommend that you carry at least $50 in 1 dollar bills. They come in handy when tipping the free room service, requesting songs in the piamo bar etc. I keep the $1 in the safe until I need them.
Personally, we always just give them a credit card to handle the Sail and Sign card. I don't like carrying that much cash. We have never had a problem. Just a thought...
I took $1100 US for a family of 4,(Mom,Dad, Baby, Grandma) on the Triumph 3 weeks ago - I had $100.00 cash and $1000.00 in traveler's cheques. I intended to use the money for shopping, shore excursions, etc, but did not spend nearly as much as I expected. I had 450.00 in traveler's cheques left over. There was no sense in converting it back into Canadian given the currency fluctuations and the fact that they charge a commission to buy and sell (I bought them when the US$ was worth $1.17 CDN, and during the cruise it was worth $1.10 - today $1.08), so I paid down the sail and sign account - the total bill on my credit card was US $69.00
