Hello, in response to your 2 way radio question I would first like to say Ive always used them and they work very well. Theres no need to spend a lot of money for them unless you will have regular future use for them. I have and have had for about 4 yrs. now a set from Motorola, they are called Talkabout T5420 They have a range of about 3 miles. I'm sure they are much improved by now. I purchased the less expensive set and like I said I still use them when I cruise. After reading your post I actually took them out and dusted them off for Sept 06. Carnival Destiny, southern caribbean( 2nd time doing that itinerary). Have a safe and great cruise.

Not sure of the exact name motor rola is the brand they work well I have a 10 and 13 so they where always on the go.

I also own Motorola radios. I've had them for 4 years now and they work great on the ship (we also use them at conventions). There is a "family class" and a "business class" radio, the latter having a distance of UP TO 6-10 miles, family radio UP TO 3 miles. On the ship the distanced can be much shorter due to the walls & floors between you, but the will still cover most of the ship.

There are basically two classes of Motorola radios.. the consumer class and the "business" class mentioned which really means that you would need a FCC liscense to use them. These radios have a much further range than the consumer radios. (And you should not be able to buy them without a liscense.) But there are consumer class radios that have really good range (1 mile or more) and they work really well. Be sure to get a model that has many channels you can use so that you can swithc around and find an unused channel. Most of the Motorola radios offer at least 7 channels each with multiple sub channels.

And bring extra batteries. If the kids leave them on, they can drain down in a couples of days.
