We're planning a cruise on the Freedom for 5/25/07, going to the Mediterranean. Is it best to book the cruise, airfare & transfers with Carnival? We feel we can get cheaper air fare on our own, but don't know if this is a risky move. Any ideas?

If it were me, I would book my own air. You will almost certainly obtain less expensive air. In doing so, transfers can still be added to your reservation, if you need them. I know it is nice to have the convenience of air/cruise all in one shot, but nine times out of ten, the cruiseline's air is going to cost you more.

Usually, in the Fall, airlines offer savings to Europe for great rates. If you are flexible, these fares can save you hundreds. Last year, I flew from Miami to Paris for less than it was to visit my son in Minneapolis. No lie.

I would check doing it both ways. The airfare may be low during nonpeak times, but when the Mediterrean season starts the airfares go back up. So the cruise line air may be within range, and remember it includes the transfers. You may want to check with a Travel Agent on getting a consolidator rate. If you decide to do air on your own, I would definetely fly in a day if not two days early. The recent threat in London is a perfect reason why you should fly in early. It is also a reminder why you should be sure to take out Travel Insurance.

Am also traveling on that date. Booked hotel airfare and cruise as a package. Not a bad deal at $7,000 - includes all transfers and taxes

Great! Let's keep in touch - I know it's a long way off, but I'm getting excited anyway. We booked everything through Carnival, including the air fare & transfers, just to be safe and without the stress. Where are you located? We live near Clearwater, Fl.

Hi I'm from New Zealand and have booked the cruise before yours departing on the 13th. Anyone else on that cruise? My wife and I are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary so this is probably the only cruise around this area we will do. My concern is getting to the ship. We will be in Manchester UK prior to flying out for the cruise and find that we can only get to Rome by flying out the day before. What is the best way to continue? Is it get accomodation near the airport and pick up Carnival Cruise Lines bus to Citavecchia at the airport the next day, or get a car to take us to the port and stay overnight there, and make our way to the ship in the morning, or take the train and overnight at the port.
Any help would be appreciated
