My fiancee and I want to take a cruise, but we very strongly oppose the archaic "women and children first" policy that some cruise lines still practice. Does anyone have a recommendation of a company to go with that has a non-discrimination policy? We checked with Disney, and they don't do that, but we wanted a boat with a few less children.

I doubt you need to worry about this! Since the Titanic, cruise lines have plenty of capacity (and more than enough life jackets as well) for everyone!
people may think it is women children and the disabled first, because of the healthy men, they are able to help people into the lifeboat, especially the disabled. they just want the ladies and kids in the boat first incase any help is needed from the men, then they let the men in, and finally the crew. you need not worry the total capacity of both liferafts and lifeboats must exceed the total amount of passengers and crew aboard the ship. it is a regualtion to prevent something happening like that of the titanic. also some ships are equiped with an emergency evacuation slide/chute like that of an airplane that goes down to an "inflatible platform" which liferafts are inflated from... these liferafts are heuge in capacity (up to 100 ppl)... so no need to worry, there is always room for everyone. even though you ARE assigned a seat in a lifeboat or floorspace in a liferaft thru whta cabin your in, which dictates the muster station, etc.
i may be young, but i know more about marine evacuation systems than you all think. some ships also have "emergency floor lighting" that comes on when the emergency signals are activated (7 short and one long blow of the ships horn several times in a row as well as beeps inside in the same fashion) the emergency lighting is like "ropelight" in the floor that comes on it can be red white yellow or a mix of all three, it will lead you to the nearest staircase and up to the muster deck. (like that of a nairplane.)
any other questions? LOL
