How what mph does the wind have to blow to make the ship rocky?

Last November we had 55+ knot winds and it was rather rocky.

Ok let's see.
Air weighs 1.2g per liter
22 mph is about 10 meters/sec
so a 10 x 10 x 10 meter block of air is a million liters so it weighs 1.2 million grams
or 1200 kilograms.
Using the Glory at 110,000 gross tons is 9.87 x 10 to the 7th kilograms, divide by 1200kg is 8 times 10 to the 4th 10x10x10 meter blocks. How many of these are there pushing on the Glory?
We need the sail space on the windward side of the Glory.....

Oh I don't know..

MemaSue, That would be hard to figure, at least for me. I am guessing above 35. Sometimes the ship can be rocky with out much wind at all at the current time. It has more to do with the wave heights I think. Sometimes you can have a perfectly calm day, yet the wind churned up the ocean the day before.

You are most welcome. As of today the Atlantic Hurricane Season ended. One could still pop up, but is unlikely. Hopefully you will have calm winds and smooth seas.

Best wishes for a wonderful cruise!
