Just returned from the 10/23 cruise on Triumph with 25 other friends and can say it was one of the best cruises ever! The 7-day cruises out of New Orleans are very popular! Roatan is my new "favorite port" and could very well be the next St. Thomas. Mahoghany Bay is fabulous and worth the whole trip. Due to Hurricane Richard, the itinerary was reversed, stopping in Cozumel first, then Roatan, and the Belize stop was changed to Costa Maya. When we docked at Costa Maya, the gangways were moving like a grill brush on a grill, so Capt. Los opted to depart for anpother sea day, followed by another calling in Cozumel. A day at sea beats Costa Maya any day! I heard a few smart remarks about the changes, but nothing major. Cruise Director Cory Rogers and his staff did an awesome job reacting to the sudden changes and kept everything upbeat. The entertainment on Triumph was the best I have ever experienced and I can honestly say the same thing about our dining experiences with YASA and GEDE in the Paris Dining Room. If you are going on Triumph anytime soon, trust me and request to be seated with these two! I am pleased to say that embarkation and debarkation at Port of New Orleans is getting better each time. We were off the ship and in the car headed home at 7:20 am. We're now ready to go again!

Glad to hear you had an awesome cruise despite the changes!

Mahoghany Bay has been getting great reviews. I can't wait to go and see it. I'm not sure if Cory mentioned it or not, but this was his first time as a Cruise Director. I'm going to forward your comments to him as I'm sure he and staff will appreciate them.

Now that is what I call Early Debarkation! So glad you had a wonderful time.

I had no idea this was his first time in the CD spot...he is a natural for it and please tell him that everyone from Nashville had a blast and will be back again! He will certainly be one of the better cruise directors of the fleet.

I love Costa Maya, we go to mahalajau (sp) a little village about 2 miles from costa maya. It is becoming more modern but when were went there the first time it was very much "Mexico".
I dont think you misssed a thing in Belize.
I have to agree with you on Roatan. I love it too.
loved your review.

Welcome home, tncruiseman! Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Sorry that Richard interrupted plans, but glad to hear the captain made the best of it. Thank you for your great review!

We did a catamaran sail/snorkel in Costa Maya that was wonderful. We got to visit Mahual on the way to the catamaran. It's an old fishing village and I really enjoyed it. They're building more "Americanized" things in Costa Maya. The swim up bar/restaurant was really pretty. They're building a Carlos n Charlie's or something like that towards the end of the terminal section. I know they have to improve things, but I really enjoy seeing ports as they really are.

I loved Mahogany Bay, too. We went to the old port on the Epic, and after our trip to Tabyana, we went walking into town. Much better prices outside of the terminal.

I know what you mean about hopefully soon for the next cruise. Although we did sign up for a future cruise on NCL, I haven't booked one. I'd like to get back on Princess or Costa next year, but haven't booked...yet!

It sounds like New Orleans is becomming a good cruise port. Guess I need to try that, too.

Please let us know when you decide on your next one, we can celebrate with you!

You bet! I would love to cruise with ya! We're really wanting to do the Meditteranean on Magic next September, but the economy will have to improve considerably...either that or a new credit card. LOL In the meantime, we're looking at another cheapie in early 2011 on Elation or Triumph again and will definitely let y'all know!

I know it sounded like I am picking on Costa Maya and I really do like the swim-up bar there, although we haven't been there since it reopened from the previous hurricane. With the state of affairs in Mexico right now, I would be very hesitant to get outside the tourist village. Carlos and Charlie's will make a great addition and liven up that place a bunch! Can you imagine a "swim-up" Carlos and Charlies?" :0)

No, you didn't sound like you were picking on Costa Maya . Costa Maya doesn't have much to offer. However, I'm one of those wierd people. I prefer the "natural" state of a port. We went to St. Vincent a couple of years ago, it was indeed scary walking to town, but it was interesting to walk among the chikens, roosters, goats, etc., just roaming around. The town was absolutely nothing, but I loved taking pictures of these shacks that were "clubs" to the locals.

I'm sure it's changed because any port tries to spiff up the place. However, some ports, St. Thomas comes to mind, go way overboard. When I first went to St. Thomas there were no more than 20 houses dotting the mountain side, the beaches and town were pristine. Now, well, we all know what St. Thomas looks like. It's a hard balance. I think, Costa Maya will just be building up the immediate surrounding area. There was a museum and 3 or 4 large shops outside the terminal area.

I would have felt a lot better about going into Mahual, if I spoke better Spanish. I can order a beer and ask for a bathroom, but that's about it

Many think I'm crazy but we have always had a blast in Progreso, venturing off the beaten path, although I wouldn't do that for the world right now. One time there, we talked the police into riding us around with our cooler of beer..and they did! Older and wiser now, but sure isn't as much fun! LOL
