Actually Suzy, I screwed it up too. I re-read it again and it said they start sailing from Oct 2008 and they start taking bookings in Sept of 2007, so there isn't only one month of time to fill the ship... So forget what I said about discounts.

Well, Dave. You know that outsiders still think Alabama is occupied by nothing other than rednecks (I hold the media and comedians responsible for that). But on the other hand, I'd rather the rest of the U.S. not know how nice Birmingham really is because then a lot of people would want to live here and then it wouldn't be so nice anymore.
Birmingham is indeed a nice place. I found out when I had to spend a lot of time there last fall. But cruise ships can't depart from Birmingham, so we'll have to settle for Mobile. A great port facility, although I am worried about how great it will be with twice as many passengers to process. Certainly they will need more parking.
I think I should stay out of these thread because this is the second time someone has interpreted my words into something I did not say. Do you really think I'm under the impression that ships can sail out of Birmingham? I was merely using Birmingham as an example of a cross-section of people in Alabama.
Huh? I was merely complementing Birmingham and then moving the thread back on topic with Mobile. In other words I was trying to be polite and agree with you about Birmingham being a nice place.
I just hope this "stock" will turn out to be a winner and not a flop. That's the thing about "tips"....sometimes they hit and sometimes they don't. (using a stock tip analogy)

Thank you, Dave. I hope you were in the over-the-mountain area, because north Birmingham is NOT nice.
I look forward to cruising on on the Triumph.
Actually Homewood and the areas around there. My wife was in Lakeshore Rehab Hospital recovering from major injuries.
We did a pre-check on her cruising abilities by taking the 5-day Holiday out of Mobile this past March. She passed this test with only minor problems, which cleared us for a 7-day on RCI this past June.
My big goal is to see 7-day cruises out of Mobile. That would be huge! I am going to make a booking for a cruise on the Triumph. Maybe New Years 2008/2009.
I think a Fantasy Class ship in Mobile would be a much better fit although this is good news for keeping cruise prices out of Mobile in check. I really don't think the demand is there for almost double capacity so there definitely will be some deals cooking!

Before Katrina Carnival had the Conquest and the Sensation sailing out of New Orleans - They wanted to move the Triumph to New Orleans, but I guess the port couldn't handle the Capacity. Moving the Triumph to Mobile seems to make sense - It adds capacity to that region.
I am with Dave. I would love to see at least SOME 7-day cruises offered out of Mobile or even New Orleans. I will also schedule a cruise out of Mobile on the Triumph ASAP, but I would also like to see more port variation from what is now offered out of New Orleans. What do you think became of a second cruise ship or even a larger ship out of New Orleans. It seemed more logical to move the Fantasy to Mobile and put the larger Triumph in New Orleans. But what would I know, I'm just a newbie to this cruise world. Thanks for the info.
