we have always had a full oceanview window but this cruise we got a port hole and now i am beginning to wonder if maybe we should spend the money and upgrade to a full oceanview. has anyone had a room with a port hole and what is your thought on it. thanks

Actually if you plan on spending a lot of time in your cabin you may want to, but we have had inside, full window, port hole, and balcony and realize we just don't spend any more time in the room than we have to and it doesn't make a difference. Funny though when you have an inside cabin you ALWAYS draw back those curtains to look even though you know there is no window there....just can't help it. I would say the port hole is just as good as the window. It is a step up from the inside.

baby doll is right.
How much time do you actually spend looking out your window? Not much. And when you do, what do you see? Not much. I actually kind of like portholes--makes you feel like you're on a ship.
First choice would be a balcony; but after that, either is fine.

We had an outside stateroom booked on Pride. Carnival called us about 8 weeks ago and told us they were upgrading us to a balcony with a "partially obstructed view". What does that mean and should I be excited? Can we keep the door open at night to listen to the waves? My husband is a believer in during check in to ask for an upgrade. It doesn't hurt to ask. This time we didn't have to ask. Why do the cruise lines do it? Is the ship not booked to capacity?

Andrea-congrats on the balcony upgrade! I have had the complicated subject of upgrades explained and it goes something like this: Carnival's goal is for every ship to sail full regardless of price. On your sailing, it is possible that the less-expensive categories filled up really quick, leaving the upgraded category with more vacancy. they have the booking statistics down to a science, which told them to make more of the less expensive cabins available - therefore you were upgraded. They also WANT people to book early and you receiving that upgrade will encourage you to do the same next time! Enjoy it! Ask again when you check in - might be a suite available too!
