In Ensenada and Catalina, would it be more economical to book excursions from Carnival or in port?

From what I have read here in previous post, the major benefit to booking through your ship is if there was a delay or some other reason they got you back to the ship late , the ship would wait. I believe they are not cheaper, but it is also a good idea to book ahead, we have already booked ours on the carnival web site,
