I have been on 3 cruises and on all three we have traveled witha group of people so our dining table only consisted of the people in our group. we never had table mates before. i was just wondering if anyone had any great stories or horror stories regarding the tablemates they have had. does anyone know if the fascination has any yables for two? i was told by my t/a that i had to request that when i got onboard. thanks for any help!

Almost always had great tablemates. Once had two drunken brothers who was quickly whisked away never to be seen again. On the Destiny, there was a solo man at the table who creeped me out so I just changed tables. Otherwise, they are a great place to make your "friends for the week".

hi cruiseocd. On our cruise in February, we requested through our Carnival Rep. a table for four. My husband travels out of the country often and he has late office hours. This was also our daughter's graduation gift. On this particular cruise we just wanted our dinner seating to be the four of us and no one else. Our rep. was very understanding and said he would glady make the arrangements. I've got to admit, it was a wonderful, relaxing, memorable experience. We were able to talk to our daughter about her future plans, my husband's business, etc. Conversation that we have difficulty finding time for at home and conversation that I wouldn't necessarily want strangers to be part of. For our family, this arrangement worked great on this trip. Once you board the ship, feel free to visit the dining room and see where you are seated. You may be able to find out from the maitre 'd who your dinner mates will be. If something is unsatisfactory to you, relay this to the maitre 'd. He will try his hardest to make things right and then notify you of the change. They are usually very accommodating. They want you to be happy. Good luck. A'ndrea

Cruiseocd.. I'd like you at my table.. sounds like your a fun dinner companion. We have always seemed to find good tablemates. The last couple of cruises, my girls ended up with pen pals. You just never know who you are going to encounter. Sure there is a risk that you will not like you table mates, but the risk is worth the possibility of meeting new friends. If you do end up with a problem table, ask them to move you. If they can they will.

Tables for 2 can be hard to come by because they tend to give those to honeymooners that request them. You may wish to go the other way and ask to be seated at a large table (like one for 10) then your odds of finding good company increases.

October of 2004 I was on the FANTASY for a four night cruise. missed the first dinner. thought I'd atleast see who carnival placed me with as far as tablemates(just incase one was single and smokin hot) Well got to the table and found a skinny long haired guy with a beard who looked familiar (like I saw him somewhere on a cross)dressed in a kind of raggy garb, and accross from me was an eldery lady. I sat down said Hey and started to talk with them, found out that we were all sailing solo. the waiter comes and jesus starts saying, all he can eat is organic this and that and wanted to see the packing details on one of the veggie boxes to besure he wasnt contaminating his body with MSG's or something he examined every utensil and glass for smudges or whatever. the woman was talking about all her health problems since birth, as she inhaled two lobster tails and shrimp cocktail, My steak just sat there on my plate.... I couldnt eat due to the woman practicly coughing up a lung every 30 seconds.
the whole time I was listing to whats good for me to eat and what happend the last time she was admitted to the hospital I was in eye contact with a cute blonde at another table. I excused my self from my table and never went back. i went to the casino...was playing there for a few hours when the cute blonde appeared and started talking to me. I explained what went on at my table and the next two nights me and Dawn were side by side at her table for dinner.
Thats my story

cruiseocd, you sound like a blast ! We always order multiple entrees and dance with the wait staff. Anyone would love to have you at their table. You sound like the life of the party. Have a great time. Order one of everything, dance with your waiter and don't worry about what anybody thinks. You're on vacation and probably will never see these people again. A'ndrea

Well it really depends
Remember that you will not know your tablemates until your second day because you will be seated to the next available table the first day at carnival
Is not until the second day that they let you to your table. Horror stories you bet!!!
At carnival destiny during my honeymoon we have the kind of tablemate that you ask yourself
What the hell is going on her mind???
They serve you a great Lobster she said “Yaghh This lobster is the worst I have ever taste”
They serve you a very decadent Chocolate cake “wow this cake is terrible!!!”
There were no way you can make her happy and believe me the waiter tried everything and she keep humiliating the poor waiter
Actually for me the food was great I Remember the best one Bisque of lobster WOW!!! Is the best thing I ever tasted but she said “How can they serve this, is tasteless I can't wait for this cruise to be over”
Crazy people!!!!
Looking forward to go out of the ship???? What?? I don’t get it…
The last night at the cruise, she didn’t came you know it was the night you tip extra the waiter for their good work.
What a surprise!!!
I gave the waiter an extra tip $ 20, I always do it if they do a good work and tell him “man you are a saint If I were you I will have lets her know how great and considered passenger she was…”

At the adventure of the seas I ask at booking for a small table 2 or 4 at most and my wife only speak Spanish so I ask for a waiter that can speak Spanish.
They put me in a 9 person table and in English speaking section Luckily I was there early and make the changes needed after that they gave me a 4 person table and the other couple never show up so as far is go the do a great job!!!
Just a word of advice arrive as early as you can in my case I enter the boat at 11:30 am so get early, go to the restaurant in case you have any trouble because at that time is easy to make changes…

I can tell Mr. October takes "smooth" to a whole new level!!

We have had both private booths for 4 and a table for 8 - 10. We prefer a booth for 4. I am very outgoing, but prefer it to be sometime other than dinner.
