Plenty of people have walkie talkies on the ship. If they are the higher power type they should work pretty well. Just make sure they have the privacy code feature so you don't have to listen to everyone else.

When I am on a cruise I don't even check to see if it works. Unless I am in port to call the Parents.

Maybe I am wierd? I hope when the office calls it says.."Island in on the deep blue sea"..handle it yourself!

If you are travelling with school age kids, you may want to confiscate their phones before you get on the ship. Every cruise that I have been on lately, I see youngsters just chatting away to whoever. My wife and I were eating on the lido deck and we noticed a youth of around 12 or 13 who talked nonstop on his cell phone for well over an hour. There goes his allowance until 2008.

That's a good tip, even though I don't have kids (not even married - 24 years old)...I don't think I would have even thought to take away my kids phones, but, again, that's probably because I don't have any kids yet.

we just had a pre-paid phone worked great only port it did not work was grand turk, we only used it to check home and used it in our room.
