Is it possible to take food from the ship off at the ports? I was thinking that I could have the staff wrap up a sandwich or a slice of pizza or something, so that I could take it with me and not need to return to the ship for lunch. I could even secretly wrap it up myself if they had a problem with that.
I was told that security won't let you take food off the ship.
this is what we do. we take a soft side cooler with us. it folds down flat in the suitcase.alos zip lock sandwich bags, we bring our own soft drinks and water with us on the boat. when we go to the beach, we get rolls and deli meat from the buffet, take it to our rooms and make up sandwiches. put them in the cooler with our drinks and have our stewart add ice for us. never had a problem. we do this not to save money but because i am so afraid of getting a "bug" from the native lands restaurant. They dont have the safety measures that we are so use to in America.
Mike, I have done this once and did not have a problem. I ordered a turkey and swiss sandwich with chips from room service and after wrapping it, I put it in my little backpack. I was able to get off of the ship without a problem. I do not know the "official" rules however.

Mike, you're fine and smart to carry a light lunch off of the ship with you. You can grab some pizza, or you can order room service. We always travel with some sandwich sized ziploc bags. Grapes and smaller items fit nicely into the bags. Just don't carry off a side of beef.
Don't bring any food, bought in port, back on board with you. It's not allowed.
By food, I mean just purchased and ready to eat, fruits, vegetables, etc. They will make you discard it before re-boarding.
If you are purchasing, say, a bottle of hot sauce in Mexico and plan on carrying it home, you're fine.
