OK, I need some help with time zones. If my itinerary says we arrive in a port at 8:00 am, is that 8:00 island time? Or does my ship stay on Miami time the whole trip??

From what I understand, that means it arrives at 8:00 "ship time." Make sure you bring a watch, and leave it on "ship time" for the duration of your cruise so you do not risk missing the ship.

It is always ship's time, but that can sometimes be local time too. Most of the time ships doing Caribbean cruises will remain on the same time as their embarkation port (Miami for example), but on occasion the ship will change to the local time for the ports. They will inform you of any time changes in the Carnival Capers, so it is important to carefully read it each day.

It is really the choice of the Captain as to whether the ship changes time as it goes through time zones.

Aaaahh! This is so crazy. I'm asking because I'm booking an excursion with Shore Trips. We're leaving from Miami, and it says we're arriving in Roatan at 8:00 am. If that's ship time, then that would mean 6:00 am in Roatan, right? Crazy! Maybe I need to call Shore Trips to figure it out. Actually, I'm going to call Carnival first.

Thanks for your help!

I was on a non ship excursion last year on Roatan too. The time took some figuring out. You are correct at present it would be 8 AM on the ship and 6 AM on Roatan as they don't observe Daylight Savings Time.

OK, I called Carnival and they said the times on my itinerary are Miami time. Now I have to call Shore Trips and change my time! LOL!

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 12:40 PM.
