question on weather in August

Ok here I go again in unknown territory. I have booked us, and some brand new cruiser friends, on the Liberty for August 15th 7 day cruise. The itinerary is; Half Moon Cay, St Thomas, PR, Grand Turk plus of course the sea days. I did get trip insurance, but would be awful if we got rain everyday and couldn't go to the beach (real reason for cruise). What are the chances of that? I remember the caribbean last year in February rained in the morning in St. Thomas, cleared up in the afternoon, but the water was cold. We have never came east way in the summer months. Any ideas on what to expect? The water should be warm right?

The water will be great. No one can predict the weather, it is hurricane season. Usually, it's not a big deal. If there's a hurricane, they'll change the itinerary to avoid it. Typically the weather in August is warm and humid. Typically the rain doesn't last long.

Thanks penny that is a sigh of relief. Have you been to any of these islands? I have to PR and St. Thomas but not the others.

Yes, we've been to all of them. Half Moon Cay is one of my favorite private islands, it's a beautiful beach. Grand Turk was leveled by the hurricane last year, but one of our members recently returned and said they were up and running. There's a great beach right at the pier, and there are some nice stores there, too. We did a snorkeling trip (through the ship)and had a great time. You have a great itinerary for plenty of beach days.

I was thinking the snorkling at Grand Turk might be good for the new couple that has never done anything like that before. But isn't there a 7,000 foot drop off that island? That spokes me. Fradie cat of heights even UNDER water. Was there colorful fish? I was disapointed at Cancun where all the tropical fish ,on the second largest reef in the world ,was just little grey ones. So you liked the snorkling on Grand Turk?
