My husband and I are considering a carnival cruise to Europe next summer on the new Freedom ship. We've been on one other cruise to the Carribean on RCCL which we loved. Would people recommend CCL for a European cruise or are there better, similarly priced options out there? I've never been to Europe but feel this may be a good way to see a little bit of everything. Any info about people's experiences on CCL to Europe would be appreicated. Thanks!

LCos,

welcome to Cruise-Chat.com. http://images8.fotki.com/v154/photos...33/wave-vi.gif

I took a Mediterranean cruise on the "Carnival Liberty" last year and was very positively surprised by the product. Carnival's ships are certainly more "Las Vegas"-like than RCI's, but IMHO service and food were better than what I have experienced on RCI plus the standard cabins are considerably larger. RCI's "Voyager"-class ships have a far superior range of "exotic" activities, however.

I wouldn't hesitate to sail with Carnival, again.

Patti,

wow - that's a difficult question. There are so many wonderful places. Make sure to visit our sister site http://www.europeportreviews.com/ for lots of first-hand information on the various Ports of Call.

First of all, I would strongly suggest spending at least one extra day in Rome. While most of the world-famous sights are pretty close together, you will be happy to spend some extra time there. In Naples, a visit to the Pompeii or Herculaneum ruins is a very good choice IMHO. Tom Ogg has posted an excellent Pompeii on you own by train report. My brother and sister-in-law did the tour in May as suggested by Tom and had an excellent time.

One of the highlights of the cruise will be the arrival in and departure from Venice, which is simply breathtaking. Another favorite of mine is Dubrovnik, Croatia, with its old town and wonderful surroundings, which are sometimes kind of hidden - but beautiful once discovered.

Hi Patti,
if you are interested in the Mediterranean Sea, Rouls recommandations are brilliant. A very MUST in this area is Naples with excursions to Pompeji and Ercolano (Herculaneum). Another destination: the isle of Capri with the blue lagoon. The restored "old town" of Dubrovik is a jewel, but unfortunately very overcrowded. There are too much cruise ships with this destination! If you count Istanbul to be a part of Europe: don`t miss it.
Maybe you prefer the northern region, than I recommend Copenhagen, the Norwegian Fjords (with Bergen) or Rostock and Petersburg.
Regards
Uwe
