What attire should you wear on the ship?

First time crusing I heard all you need is swimsuits to wear on the ship with some cute coverups?

During the day, guests who are wearing swim wear are asked to wear a coverup when they leave the pool area - such as when they leave the pool to go in to the buffet restaurant for a bite to eat. And you will find people all over the ship similarly attired - again, during the day time hours. Carnival is more relaxed about this than some other cruise lines. Obviously, evening is not the time to still be in a swim suit and most people will be in resort casual attire except for the formal nights.
