Time to rebook. No matter how I slice it is going to be 5 grand. The cheapest cruises are at the very end of August and leave from Fort Lauderdale or Miami.
Hurricane season.
I will be with my sons, ages 16, 14, 12 and 8. One cabin.
My choices are:
7 day Caribbean on the Triumph, guaranteed OV $3056. plus $1654. airfare TOTAL: $4710.00 (no hotel, will stay with Aunt).
7 day Caribbean on the Legend, guaranteed OV $5406. plus no airfare.
I know I can go on RCCL but everyone is coming up waaaay more expensive than CCL for the same itineraries.
Is there any kind of insurance that will cover cruise and airfare if there is a hurricane? Is that a fortune?
NYC is a 7 hour drive from here FYI.
If anyone can weigh in on the ships or give me any advice I would appreciate it.
The trip has to be in August because of school and camp schedules. NY starts school later than the south, so we can leave the last week of August (fares drop waaay down then).
Yes, we are all in one cabin because they are under 21. I am not objecting- it is a blast. My mother may decide to come again, but even then they will all stay with me.
good grief girl what airlines are you flying on you can get cheaper flights then that, try jet blue or try orbitz fare watcher I got us a flight from conntinal to tampa for 232.00 from newark and flights out of jfk and lga are even cheaper then newark are you booking your flight through the cruise line?? they are always a 100.00 p/p more. if you booked your own. I have done 6 cruises and never booked flight with the cruise always seperate, since you have your computer search the sights to get your best fare last time we went to miami it was around 230.00 on conn. insurance may be a good thing for you with the kids and all it is about 60.00 per person they go in tiers of how many days you will be on board, you never know what to expect with kids, illness and other factors better to be safe then sorry you should have recieved insurance papers when you book your cruise and tey give you a 3 day period or so to buy at least that is what my agent has supplied me with, I have not yet bought insurance I have thought about it a few times but I have been lucky so far except for this lnext cruise it was scheduled out of New orleans I had to change my itinerary do not know if the insurance would have helped or not maybe some one else know more about the hurricane clauses I have been on legend large ship, the kids will have a blast have not yet done the triumph she is a smaller class, but which ever you choose You will all have fun happy cruz'n fran
p.s. some times flights are a little cheaper if you fly in to fort lauderdale, and take transportation to miami we got a limo to take us into miami when we arrived it was 60.00 for 3 of us and about 8 pices of luggage and a guiter also the cruise line has service you can book it when you book your cruise, they have buses at the airports they charge about 15.00 per person I have the limo services number we used if you want it. just let me know, I will forwarded it on they service miami and ft. lauderdale
My Aunt lives in FLL and my brother lives in Miami, so I am not worried about ground transport. I came up with fares as low as 1250.00 last night after I wrote this (Yahoo travel is always WAY cheaper than Expedia, I don't know why I didn't go there FIRST!). The thing is that I refuse to connect in Atlanta if I actually have to be somewhere. We will fly in the day before, but still, with Atlanta Who Knows.
Thanks for all of your advice! What is the Triumph like? I just sailed on Elation and although we loved it it was a little OTT for my kids, decor-wise. They kept saying it was like Vegas, and not in a good way. Don't get me wrong, they had fun, but two of them are kind of hippie-ish and understated, and I said that this time I would scout out something a little more low key. HAHA on Carnival????
They will love it and be so thrilled no matter what, but I am just wondering if you can give me your opinion.
I agree with avoiding flights through Atlanta. We travel frequently, actually my husband does every week with his work...whenever he flies through Atlanta we can just plan that he'll be delayed, flight cancelled, etc. It's well worth the money to avoid a layover there.
I will be leaving on the Triumph on Tuesday October 18th from Charleston, when I return I will let you know how the ship is. We have traveled on quite a few Carnival ships, but this will be our first time on Triumph, in fact our first time on a ship of this size. We usually prefer the ships that hold from 1500-2200 people, so this will be a new experience for us. By the way, I booked a 6A guarantee...received our room assignments a couple of weeks ago...we were upgraded to 6E on the Spa deck in one of the family suites....really looking forward to seeing what that is like.
