As a non smoker you have the right to book a cruise on Oceania and enjoy the fresh air. As a smoker we have the right to book a cruise on any cruise line that permits smoking, and more than that the right to smoke where it is permitted.

YEs, you have the right to smoke where it is permitted. I won't argue with you there and I won't say that because I don't smoke that you should be barred from doing so. But I would ask you to realize that I, a non-smoker, enjoy playing in the casino too and accept that there will be smokers in there, but PLEASE be as curitous as possible to us non smokers when you do. I have had several smokers sit down at a blackjack game and exhale their smoke right in my face. That is just rude. If you can, please as least turn your head away from us as much as possible and pay a little attention to your ash try and which way the smoke is drifting.. if possible position it so it drifts away and not towards us...

As the George Carlin once joked in his routine Person 1, "Hey, do you mind if I smoke?" Person 2, "No, do you mind if I fart? A cloud is a cloud is a cloud...."

What I don't understand is most non smokers use the same argument. "He blew smoke right in my face." "I asked him to watch his smoke and he ignored me." "I have asthma and second hand smoke can kill me." Well if you have all these problems with smokers then WHY DO YOU GO WHERE SMOKERS ARE? I mean if it bothers people so much and you are that offended by it, and if smokers are so rude why DON'T YOU book a cruise on a non smoking cruise line? Why do you go to a restuarant that permits smoking (if there are any left)? Smokers, in the past recent years, have been made out to be and accused of being second class citizens in this country. There are some local governments that are right now considering banning smoking in PRIVATE HOMES! How crazy is that?

Bottom line is real simple, as a non smoker you have more rights than a smoker. These rights have been given to you by laws and ordinances. As a smoker I have been relagated to smoking around the corner on the back side of the rear entrance of the building next to the dumpsters. So if you don't want to smell my smoke on a cruise book it with Oceania and stay out of the smoking areas. Will I blow smoke in your face? NO! Will I flick my ashes on you? NO! Will I smoke in my cabin? YES! Will I smoke on my balcony? YES! Will I smoke in the bars and casino? YES! Return the courtesy that you ask for and don't act as though we are "serfs" and you are the "land barrons."

-Rog

p.s. - Even as a smoker, if someone blew smoke in my face delibrately I would be in the brig and he would be in the infirmary.

A little trip back to civility, I hope. I've been on four different Carnival ships. No noticeable smoke anywhere, except in and around the casino. The minute amount of smoking on outside decks was never a problem. I do not smoke, never have. It is not a personal health problem for me, but I don't like it at all. I don't go into the casino much, more because of the smoke than a desire not to be there. Carnival might get me into the casino if it were smoke free, but who knows how many would not go in if that were the case.

In short, second-hand smoke has never been a problem for me on a cruise. I love cruising and find joy in every trip, despite a few things that are not perfect.

OK everybody, If you think smokers have it bad, just try to get a dip of snuff in a public area. And if you second hand smoke bothers you, wait till someone spills their spit cup on you. At least smoking is still somewhat socially acceptable. We dippers need to unite. I say go smokeless if you know what I mean. RickyB

Both are nasty harmful habits. My Mama taught me not to spit, pick my nose, ect in public! Having watch my Dad and a couple Uncles die from the effects of smoking, I know why it is being outlawed. So do smokers they just can not quit. I have never smoked a day in my life, but second hand smoke has effected me. Maybe that is why they want to outlaw smoking in private homes. It makes heath care cost raise, we all pay for it in the in.

Rog- Because I like to go to casinos and gamble. Try to find a casino that is smoke free... there aren't any. and I acknowledged that fact in my post as to why I put up with it. Yes, I willing go where smoking is allowed by if I had the choice I wouldn't.. bottom line is if I want to gamble, I have to put up with the smoke. That doesn't change my request that smokers be more aware of non-smokers and try to be as curtious as possible. I NEVER said that I expected you to not smoke.

And as far as your "Rights as a smoker" go, your rights to smoke end at my right to breath clean air. So that arguement doesn't hold up in my book. You also have the right to own a gun, but you DON'T have the right to shoot it in public whenever you want.

I'm not crusading to have your right to smoke ended. You can smoke all you want in the places that its permitted and I won't say boo.. DESPITE the fact that I watched my dad die from lung cancer 2 years ago. I don't wish that experience on anyone... but if you want to smoke and you wish to do so.. by all means, go for it. BUT you don't have the right to pollute the air I breath. hence the laws. Do I back a law to ban somking in a private place... no, that's ludicrous. Do I back smoking and non smoking areas... yes.

But we are moving way off topic... which was the question on how much smoke there was on ships. I agree with richjester.. Unless you go into the casinos or sit in the smoking areas, you should not be bothered by any smoke.

Please tell me you really did not urinate in the hot tub Well, I guess I'm safe because I never use the pool or the hot tub when cruising.
