Mistake? Miracle 8/31/07

Hey People,

I'm pretty much a rookie cruiser (this will be my second), and brand new to the group (so HI!).
Therefore, please excuse anything dumb I might say

So my question: I'm booked on the Miracle for an 8-day cruise leaving 8/31/07 (anyone else going?). Am I taking a big risk as far as hurricanes go? If I do hit poor weather, is it more likely to be a day or two of rain, or full blown storm that could ruin the trip?

I realize that since I'm already booked, it doesn't really matter - what will happen, will happen. But I'm just curious. I also realize that this may be a tough question to answer (hence, the "dumb" disclaimer I included above).

Whatever the answer, I'm psyched. Thanks for any help.

If there are any major storms out there the Captain will do every thing in his power to avoid them. You might miss a port of call or two but they will go around the storms or go in a differant direction all together. I would not worry to much about it1 Tom

I think you always have that tiny chance...
but overall your chances are in your favor that you'll have a great time, go around any bad weather, and for the most part see lots of hot sun (watch out for late afternoon thunderstorms).

Welcome to Cruise chat MiketheKid. I have cruised twice in August and except for tropical rain, which you can plan on in August in the Caribbean, it was uneventful. I'm not sure where you live, but you will certainly get a dose of humidity at that time of year. As for cruising into storms, they will avoid those. If it really looks bad, they will most likely divert your itinerary to different ports. Enjoy your cruise!!

Carlg beat me to it, but Welcome aboard! Its always good to get new memebers to chat with. The others have already said it, but the truth is, unless the Huricane comes in on embarkation/debarkation day, it is rare that a cruise gets cancelled by a storm. Even then, they may just postpone it. If they do you will get your money back, so you will be out a vacation but nothing else. If there is a storm projected to go through your cruises course, the cruiseline will re-route you (possibly going to different ports) to stay clear of the storm. So are you taking a big risk? No I don't think so. Just watch the weather before you cruise date (I like the NOAA web site for storm tracking) and visit the cruise website to watch for change update postings and you will be fine.

Thanks for the help. I feel better about not being stuck inside the cabin all day due to rain. I can deal with some rain, but hopefully we don't miss too many ports - we leave from NYC, so we only stop at 3!
To answer Carlg's question, I'm from NY. My last cruise was to the Western Caribbean (compared to the upcoming Eastern), so I have an idea of what to expect.

The wonderful thing about Spirit class ships is even if it is raining, you can still do lots of things. No need to worry about being stuck in your cabin. One pool has a retractable roof that they can close when needed.

We loved our Miracle cruise.

As far as storms go, we have a plan. As long as the ship does not sink....we will have a good time. And even if the ship does sink, as long as no one is hurt and they give me enough goodies for my trouble....we will still have a good time!!
