Well as to the Galveston question, I have been there a couple of times when we lived in TX for 3 years. The beaches aren't as nice as east coast beaches but they are Terrible. We did eat at some REALLY good seafood restaurant but I can't remember the name. Houston isn't far though and there is a lot to do there.
You could drive down and go to San Antonio, that is one of my FAVORITE cities. There is WAY alot to do there!

Jobster,

We're on the same cruise. Haven't changed my hotel to one in Galveston yet, I'm procrastinating.

Contrary to the name, though, i dont think you ride in an actual limousine, more like a shuttle bus.

We had our travel agent hold 2 seats for us on a Southwest flight while we decided what to do, and boy are we glad we did! I paid 496 for 2 round trips from Birmingham this morning, and now the cheapest thing you can find is 700. We were going to drive to New Orleans as well, but there is no way i wanted to do the 11 hour trek to Galveston, not to mention the lack of hotel rooms.
Hmmmm I should have thought about southwest from B'ham - we are leaving from Huntsville on American...

There is another alternative as well - you can rent a car from Enterprise and even with the $40 one way drop off fee, it looks to be cheaper for our family of 4 than CCL's bus or a private limo (we are arriving SAT and spending the night in a hotel - were we not doing that, the limo you suggested probably would have been the best bet.)
