Hi, I'm a new cruiser, going on my first cruise on 8/7/07 out of new york, on the Carnival Miracle to the Eastern Caribbean. Im bringing my hubby, and our 3 boys. Looking for others who have been on the Miracle ship & also for some advice on what to pack? packing for 5 will not be easy, and i always tend to overpack. any advice would be great! Thanks!

Hey Princess,

Just back from the Miracle, it was a really nice ship and lots of fun. Have been on 3 cruises and have over-packed for them all - of course, being a woman. I have 2 boys. What are your kid's ages and maybe I can help? For starters you will need 2 formal outfits if you are going to be eating in the dining room every night. For the boys, just pack different colour shirts and ties to go with their suit or dress pants. (hubby does the same thing ) If they are young enough, they can get away with wearing black running shoes with their outfits on formal nights. Shorts are not allowed in the dining room so they will need some Khakis or zip-off pants (also double as a pair of shorts) and button up shirts or T-shirts to go with them. Running shoes are fine to wear. If you eat dinner at the buffet, no need to worry, you can wear what you want. Pack a few pairs of the bathing suit type shorts (maybe 4 pairs) (ones with the underwear in them) they can wear them for swimming and on shore excursions, mix and match with few different T-shirts ( I would take 8 - one for every day). This is a start, if you have any more questions, just ask.
P.S. I thought I really packed light for this cruise, and of course, we all came home with alot of clean clothes... P.P.S. You can do laundry on board, they do have washing mashines and dryers, however, for me, the first 3 rules of vacation are NO COOKING, NO LAUNDRY, and NO CLEANING!!! so, I just brought it all home.

Wow- lots to take in, i appreciate all & any advice. i have 3 boys- ages 13, 5, &3 1/2. i always overpack, but i will try myhardest not to. last years vacation i only used half of all our clothes. and you know boys, they dont care what they are wearing. i agree, with your vacation rules. i told my hubby, this is the first vacation we do not have to clean, cook, or drive anywhere!! LOL!! so, did you love the ship? how was camp carnival for the kids??(if you have little guys like me) and most important, should i bring my own hair dryer?? thanks alot, i will be picking your brain alot!!

It's funny that while packing we (women) alway envision what we will wear & when but it never works out that way, thus over packing! I just did that on a 7 day cruise & I VOW to try and not do that again.

Hey Princess,

I did another post with a mini review under "Just back - Miracle", its on one of these pages. Camp Carnival looked like alot of fun, with lots of activities planned for the kids and we did see them out and about doing things. We have a 10 y/o, he did not go though. He was quite happy to hang out with us, his older brother and cousin. Gramma babysat when we needed a sitter. One thing the boys will like is they have Playstation 2's and a Nintendo Wii system with a big 52 inch television. They let them play this between 10 p.m. and 12 midnight. Also, the second day, I believe, they get 1 free hour, 11:00 a.m. to noon in the arcade which is a pretty big size. There are hairdryers on the ship, but I always bring my own, just because I am used to styling my hair with it.

On RCL we had to put a credit on our sail pass card & swipe it at the machines. There is a kiosk in the game room to put credit on your card. It is a separate charge than what's on your sail pass card. The crew member in the game room can help you with that. Each game has a different cost too.
