Well, I think we're about ready for Elation. Got documents, done the fun pass, got birth certificates, bought lotsa stuff. Now looking for a real reasonable place to stay in Galveston the night before we set sail! I want to be able to leave my car there for the week we're gone, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for the one night either. Anyone know a good place?
~Thanx

I believe I have read elsewhere on this site that the Hilton Garden Inn (along the Seawall) and the Harbor House (Pier 21 at the port) have both been recommended and offer complimentary parking.
Galveston is... not a great place. We stayed at the Victorian Hotel and Suites because I needed a suite- and the hotel itself was fine. Seawall reeks. I mean it- the whole town reeks. We could tell we were getting back to port because of the smell. Staying on Seawall it is almost too much to bear without gagging. I think it is due to a buildup of seaweed but who knows.
If I were to do it again I would stay in the Strand area, right near the boat. It is actually quite pretty there for a few blocks. I would drop the car off the morning of the cruise (Enterprise) and then take the CCL shuttle back to the airport after you get back. Forget parking at the hotel- Galveston literally has one road leading to the terminal, and to say it gets congested when 5000 pax try to embark and debark is an understatement. You don't want to be looking for some obscure hotel shuttle in 100 degree heat.
We are going on the Ecstasy in December and have the Harbor Haouse booked. It was $89.00 per night and offers a continential breakfast. It is one block from the cruise pier and you can walk to the ship. I've read they do offer parking but it is $20.00 for the week. For more information, go to galveston.com. Have fun!
