Europe 13 day Liberty Carnival Cruise

In October 10th we are heading out to Europe to cruise to Italy, Spain, Crotia and France. We are staying in Italy the day before and after the cruise - was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a reasonable priced way to get to the port from Rome? Doing some research it looks like $100-200 pp each way - that to me is alot. Also see that if you have 4 or more people it is discounted more - however there is only two of us -- anyone taking the same cruise?

Also, this is our first Europe trip and our first 13 day cruise - how many formal dinners will we have?

Have not done it yet but read good directions at this site about taking the train from Rome to Civitecchia?. Only 10 euros but station is a 3/4 block walk from entrance to the port. There is a shuttle bus from there that visits the cruise ships in port. Of course you can take a taxi from the train station to the ship.
