I meant to add, our tour was through the ship. That could explain the difference even though we are booking some private tours in Italy and France due to the high cost of the ship's tours over having a private van for the entire day.

Scary stuff! Does anyone know if this trip was an excursion arranged through the cruise ship, or did they go it alone? I'm betting those seniors won't be cruising ever again.
i just read, that they ventured out on their own. Pretty risky for costa rica
This is the ship my daughter works on, I'll get a report when she returns to FFL and let you all know what she knows.
I will only take cruise line excursions, and this is one of the reasons. Other experienced cruisers will also point out that dangerous places are often noted by the Cruise Cirector in the talks before port. Good to have someone go to those and listen closely, Lots of sales pitch but real info also
Cruisedad... ABSOLUTELY! When they say to stick to ship-only excursions, believe them! We learned it in Jamaica, the hard way! On Pride last week we were told during an excursion information meeting, not to hire your own private water taxi due to a previous death. Well, what do you think people do anyway when they get on land? You guessed it! When you're in their country, you play by their rules. End of story.
