Another consideration.... if you're on your own and you are delayed in getting back to the ship in time, you're S.O.L. If it's an organized excursion through the ship and you're delayed, the ship will not leave port until you're back on.

does anyone konw if there is a way to call a cruise ship and get in touch with someone on a ship. is there a number to call the liberty?
Can I receive phone calls onboard?
Friends and family may call guests onboard via Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN) Shore-to-Ship telephone service. The rate is $9.50 per minute from the United States; additional long distance charges may apply from outside the United States.
The caller needs to have available the ship name and the guest's name. The charges will be applied to the caller's credit card: MasterCard - Visa - American Express - The Discover Card - Diner's Club. 1-877 CCLSHIP (1-877-225-7447) from the U.S. 1-732-335-3284 from Canada and outside the U.S.
lol... poor newsproducer keeps getting sideswiped... Call carnaval. seems like the first thing I would do if i was a news producer. or try 1-800-lib-erty that may work.
by the time you get the info you need from one of us it will be old news
I don't know personally of anyone that's been left behind. It happens more than you think. On Pride last week, 3 cabins did not make it back to the ship after Cabo. No one knew what happened. Guess what? The ship left port without them. Maybe it's not a private tour company situation. Many times cruisers get off of the ship, go to bars, drink heavily and lose track of time. It all depends on how close you want to play it. I've never been one to live that close to the edge. Have fun!

So its better to book thru the cruiseline? I keep reading so many reviews kinda influencing me to book private to save money and have smaller crowds
It truly depends on which port. We go to Cozumel all the time and would not think of using a ship excursion. However, Jamaica is a completely different story.
It also depends on your comfort level. Our family of 4 walked from Tel Aviv to Jaffa (Israel) and back in 2000 ( 5 miles along the boardwalk) all by ourselves and felt safer than walking downtown Memphis.
The good Lord gave us common sense for a reason. People just have to learn to pack it when they go on vacation.
