They should stop the port immediately. If it is not a reasonable safe port and tour area.
St.Croix, A US Virgin Island was stopped and taken off Carnival's ports of call several years back. Crew Members were attacked while playing basketball on there few hours off.
Bob, or someone high up in the company was so mad they stopped the port. I think they said to make it safe, or we will not port.
Now it is many years later, and still a Carnival Ship does not port at St.Croix a US Territory.
Point being, Carnival is not happy either when these things happen. I say stop the port untill they get their act together and make it safer.
LHP, you are so right. Sounds like they wanted more than the tour fare and happened to pick the wrong tourists to try it out on. That's one reason why we try to stick with ship tours on our visits to unfamiliar ports.
As a precaution when you get into a cab or tour vehicle, look at the driver's ID tag and write his name down, with him seeing you doing it. You can always say it is for your scrapbook/trip journal. The service almost always improves as well!

We have had about nine cruises, all in the Caribbean, over the last few yrs. BIG ONE coming up in June for the Mediterranean. One of our all-time favorite ports of call was Costa Rica. We chose the Rain Forest tour and were absolutely delighted at seeing howler monkeys, toucans, huge balls of termites on trees, etc., etc. We tell that to everyone and at no time did we feel threatened. I feel it must have been that particular tour they took. We would do that same tour again in a minute, providing any of you will sponsor us. Bev
Scary stuff! Does anyone know if this trip was an excursion arranged through the cruise ship, or did they go it alone? I'm betting those seniors won't be cruising ever again.
