This topic has many aspects to it. Yes, crime can happen anywhere. It seems by reading some of the posts that all of the harrassment that happens on the island fuels the fear.
It makes one more on guard, and then reading the story just adds to it. (IMHO)

At least no one injured or killed. Things like this happen in even the best places. If you feel unsafe at any port, just stay on the ship. If someone won't go to Jamica because this happened to some unfortunate tourist, then why would you get on an airplane after 9/11? Or, why get on a cruise ship after reading about people falling overboard? You can't let bad news win! I've probably been to more ports than the average cruiser, and never had a bad experience that I can recall (knocking on wood).
Dave, I was going to come to visit and sample some of your Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Now, that I know you had three holdups, it just ain't gonna happen.
Fearfully,
Sonny
SonnyV you are so right you really can not live in fear but be ye cautious and stay safe the best way you can.
Well, we've all run this thread through the wringer a dozen times now, with the same arguments being repeated. How about we leave it in the ditch and move on?

Three holdups in Athens, Greece, I could understand, but three holdups in Athens, AL, is just a little odd to me. What the heck are you guys putting in the water in Limestone county?? Trussville has been very quiet... EXCEPT FOR THE 6AM MARCHING BAND PRACTICE EVERY DAY!!! But I digress...
(I steel tink dat I will not be goin to Jamaica, mon.)
Lock it down, Dave!!
Athens is gearing up for the big wet/dry vote again. A group wants the town to go dry after being wet for 4 years, and they'll probably win since they are better organized and motivated. Adios to the new restaurants and other businesses as we turn the clock back 50 years. Cretins.
I spent a few weekends in Trussville last fall while my wife was hospitalized at Medical East.
