Just returned from a 6day west/caribbean out of Pt. Everglades,FL. with ports in Freeport,G.Cayman and Costa Maya.
This is our 6th Large Ship cruise with Carnival and I must say that The Liberty is the most beautiful. It was so clean and the decor is stunning. The shows where very nice, we met "cruisedad's daughter, Linda, a beautiful and very nice young lady(how does she stay so thin with all that food available?)and had a nice chat with her.
The Comedians were two of the best I've seen, Jim Brick and Percy Crews II.
If you do Karaoke it is a must to cruise the Liberty. The karaoke host,Misty from Kansas,we met her on the Glory last year,is the best I have ever encountered on the seven seas. Also on the Liberty you can do Karaoke on the Lido deck with your image projected on the 12ft X 22ft LED big screen as you stand beneath it and your sounds sent through the ships massive speaker system meant for the Lido deck band. All this why thousand of your new fans cheer you on from the deck or hot tubs below(now I know what Bono feels like). It got so loud during my performance of Marshall Tucker's "can't you see" that people on the 10th and 11th floor complained and security was called, however the show was allowed to continue untill 1am. Karaoke was offered every night as well as a Piano Bar and dance club. I will say,and not to offend anyone, this cruise was real mellow due to the older crowd. It was the first time I've cruised in Febuary and the crowd was much older than in the spring and summer cruises. I am 38 and when I say older I mean 60s and older. The nice thing was, very few children, I have 5 and bring them every year, however once a year my wife and I cruise alone and in Febuary you don't see much of anyones children. The piano bar guy was mello and the guy who always plays just outside the casino was all accoustic. So the entire cruise was alittle laid back. I must say that the Lido deck Band or duet was the Worst I have ever heard. It was like a bad night at Karaoke x2.They only knew a few songs and sung them over and over each day. To make it worst, one of the songs was 99 bottles of beer on the wall and they would go from 99 all the way to 1!
Freeport was the first stop and as most do, we opted to stay on the ship, freeport needs to be removed as a destination in my oppinion. The Caymans as always was great, did the shopping thing(The new Jimmy Buffets has a pool in the middle of the bar) and then spent the day on Seven Mile Beach, one our favorite. Costa Maya was the reason we took this ship, one of the best beaches in the world,"de Mahaual Beach", is where we head each time. We go to the same spot in front of the cafe Oxtankah and even got the same waiter again,Jorge, that we get each year. We showed Jorge photos of him and us from last year and ordered a bucket of coronas and the worlds best fahitas and Jorge will set your table, chairs and umbrella 4ft out into the surf where youll sit in a foot of water while you eat and drink. The water here is only 2ft deep for a 100yrds out from the beach. It is a MUST and you can get an unbelievable hour massage for $20.
Over all it was a great cruise, our last day at sea saw fridged cold weather and 80mph winds and the Lido deck was put off limits. We returned to 40 degree temps in the port in Fla which was also wierd. Hope you find this reveiw helpful and I will post photos of mentioned beaches later
