I know it is boring but I need to know about washing and ironing facilities so I can pack sensibly. I am on the ship for 3 weeks and will begin to smell .

Jan, Welcome to Cruise-Chat!

Yes as Larry said there is a service.

But, there are regular old fashioned laundrette areas on some decks as well. Washer/Dryer and Ironing facilities.

Here is a link for you:

Hope this helps, and again Welcome Aboard!

Hi Jan. You will find washing your clothes easier very early in the morning or late in the evening. I use one of our duffels to carry the laundry. Bring a few dryer sheets from home with you in a ziploc bag. Everything on the ship is more expensive. I bring along a travel size bottle of laundry detergent, as well. You can get change for the machines in the casino(remember casino is closed while docked in port). A wash runs around $2.00. Same for dryer.
Welcome and have a fun cruise. A'ndrea

Here's a cruiser after my own heart. These were my first thoughts, too.

Just booked a client on a 113 day world cruise, round trip from Ft Lauderdale on Amsterdam Jan 4th 2008. Offered to go along and carry luggage, be their personal assistant, whatever they needed but they passed.

I cannot imagine having the time or money to do a cruise of that length. And frankly, as much as I love cruising I don't know if I would like a world cruise. Two weeks would be my top, maybe three weeks. I doubt I could be isolated from home for much longer.

Perhaps this is due to my having done two back-to-back 6-month Med cruises in the Navy plus "many" one to two month cruises here and there. These gave rise to the acronym NAVY....Never Again Volunteer Yourself!

I have a client who spends most of her life on ships. She said she priced a retirement home as she was no longer capable of taking care of the home she was in. It was going to run $250. per day. Says by planning carefully she can be on a ship for about $150. -$200. on average (depending on the season) even with laundry and other non-cruise related expenses.

I like the way she thinks. I now know where my 401K will be spent when it comes that time.

Cheers, Neil

Jan I would also like to know where you are going for a 3 week cruise? Sounds like a lot of fun!
